How to
clean cat urine from expensive hardwood flooring
This professional quality article will show you how to remove cat urine
from hardwood flooring.
These instructions are appropriate for
cat urine on wood flooring including
maple, oak and walnut,
wood laminate flooring, baseboards and antique pine board floors.
Hardwood flooring is one of the single most expensive items to replace
in your home. Because of the expense which we estimate can average
between four to six thousands dollars per room you should not charge in
capriciously.
First remove all of the carpeting and padding. Move the old carpeting
and padding to an area where the strong cat urine odor will not confuse
you.
Now do not apply any cleaning products or home
remedies to the floor at all.
This
can create serious cross contamination issues later, Remember the idea
is to save that expensive hardwood flooring so stay calm and focused.
Now get your black light out. If you don’t have a black light we
recommend you visit the local Home Depot. They sell a good assortment of
General Electric black lights.
Get a writing pad with a couple of sharp pencils to take notes. You are
going to make a simple mapping diagram of the room.
Slowly pass the black light over each foot of the baseboards taking note
to mark on your writing pad where the cat urine is. This map will
greatly assist you in successfully remove the cat urine odor and
associated staining.
Now let’s map the actual hardwood floor. Starting in the uppermost left
hand corner of your room sweep the black light slowly in a left to right
motion watching carefully for the urine to fluoresce yellow under the
black light. When you get a positive reading as evidenced by the
fluorescing yellow light mark it down on your map so that you can find
it later when the lights are on.
Continue this process until you have completely checked and mapped the
entire room. Granted this is a little bit of work but easily worth the
trouble when you consider you will be literally saving several thousand
dollars per room.
Those of you that are semi pros have already gotten the idea and
reviewed the product preparation instructions.
For those of you that are novices we will cover this again.
For maximum
results we strongly recommend the room thermostat be set to seventy
five degrees and be completely warmed up before beginning the actual
cleaning process.
Prepare the
ProKlean™ Urine Pooling product according to the instructions.
Shake the ProKlean™ Urine Pooling well to ensure maximum performance.
Set the sprayer according to our instructions.
ProKlean™ products are odorless the more urine you are dealing with the stronger the odor that will be released upon application. This verifies the product is working and will dissipate quickly.
Using your mapping diagram spray the cat urine soaked areas of the
hardwood floors
and baseboards liberally.
Allow the ProKlean™ Urine Pooling product to penetrate the wood
floors for at least thirty minutes.
Repeat as necessary.
Behaviorally
cats typically will urinate on a clean floor to demonstrate some
displeasure with their environment. This is what starts the cat
urination episodes. With this in mind make sure your cats do not visit
the project room until it is absolutely clean.
